Swedish Patriotism — Does It Even Exist?

As I work on Manhattan these days, I sometimes find myself thinking about what it means to be a Swede.
Or maybe, it doesn’t mean anything at all? Is there such a thing as Swedish patriotism?
I can’t really say I’m proud to be Swedish in particular, but I can’t say that I’m not not proud either.
The other day, my colleague Raj Singh made me aware of this Daily Show clip about how Sweden can be seen by Americans in particular:
| The Daily Show With Jon Stewart | Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c | |||
| Swede Dreams | ||||

It’s sort of a follow-up I guess to these two clips that kind of vent viral in Sweden some time ago:
| The Daily Show With Jon Stewart | Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c | |||
| The Stockholm Syndrome Pt. 1 | ||||

| The Stockholm Syndrome Pt. 2 | ||||

Add to that this very insightful post about us Swedes, When Sweden Rules The World by Creative Social Blog.
So I know the videos are all fun and all, but living abroad makes you you think about how we as a nation are perceived. I haven’t come to any bigger conclusions yet, but I do like Sweden and I don’t mind going back there in the future.
But I used to think that Swedes are pretty normal folks, but maybe we actually are a bit different?
And also, is Swedish patriotism really okay in this day and age?
