This is a guest post by artist Jonay.
I always seek for new challenges in life and with my music there is no exception; one day I felt like I wanted to try something new.
A couple of days earlier I had produced an up tempo electro beat in a totally different style compared to my earlier songs.
So I felt like it was the perfect moment to try something new:
Letting The Community Decide
Together with Jamendo (Jamendo is a music website and a community where all music is free to download and licensed through one of several Creative Commons licenses or the Free Art License), we let the members of the community listen to the beat and decide what the songs should be about, simply by voting.
There were a couple of alternatives people could choose between with topics like Skydiving, Cellphone,Traffic Lights, Headphones, Barchair, Briefcase, Sofa etc.
A Skydiving Soundtrack
Skydiving got the most votes from the community! So the second challenge was to write a song about skydiving without having any experience at all (too afraid of heights!)…
I made some research and finally decided to create an account at DropZone.com (a big skydiving community) where I started this thread. Many were very skeptical at the beginning and had some really bad things to say about my project. But once a few started to share stories and information with me, the pieces started to fall into place.
The next step was to organize the information and turn it lyrics and rhymes.
The lyrics you hear in the song are based upon the stories shared by the skydivers on dropzone. Verse 1 is about the ride up in the plane and how you feel during that time. Verse 2 is about jumping of the plane. For the chorus I decided to bring in the really talented Jasmine Kara!
Back To DropZone.com For Feedback
Once the song was ready and I presented the final result to the DropZone.com community in this thread. The comments were totally different compared to the ones in the first thread I created!
The song project started as fun and exciting challenge and has now almost become a world wide anthem for skydivers and has been used in both professional and amateur skydiving videos. And frankly speaking; I’m really proud of the end result!
Let me know what you think!
Jonay Ft Jasmine Kara – Skydiving by Jonay
Jonay is an artist/producer/songwriter from Sweden. Originally from Bulgaria but brought up in Örebro, Jonay is now exploring the Stockholm music scene. He got his first glimpse of the world of hiphop when he was twelve years old and heard a song from the legend LL Cool J, who since then has been his music role model and main music inspiration.
“I have always been a supporter of Creative Commons and from the very beginning I have shared my music for free through my own website and other music communities. If people like my music they have the option to donate. Thanks to social media, bloggers etc., I have had the chance to spread my music and passion to so many people worldwide!”

Min favoritlåt är ”Hold You Tight” ft. Daniel Gidlund. [...]
