The @Sweden Colbert Report Debacle—Or Was It?

Visit Sweden has this simple yet brilliant campaign idea of letting different Swedes take weekly turns in using the @sweden Twitter account. Pretty ballsy for sure—and not without incident.

Okey, so some of the jokes on Jews and masturbation (non-related) were pretty difficult to stomach. Personally, I’m cool with the whole thing since I’ve always thought that political correctness is about as exciting as watching paint dry. But still, I get why people reacted.
But, I’ve been following some of the reactions online and here’s what I think:
1. The campaign for Visit Sweden is awesome. I think they should continue to be brave. No censorship, just freedom of speech all the way.
2. The persons using the Twitter account might be in harms way. It’s fun for everyone if they know exactly what they’re doing and what impact the @sweden account comes with. Just make sure to coach new ambassadors on the risks that they’re taking so we can laugh with them, not at them.
3. Let Stephen Colbert use the account for a week already! :)
